If I understand what you need, I believe you want the EXTFLD keyword as follows: D WORKDS E DS EXTNAME(WKFILE01) D FLD_HERE E EXTFLD(FLD_ON_FIL) The external file definition for field FLD_ON_FIL within file WKFILE01 is known to this program as FLD_HERE. Good luck. Is there a way to rename one field in an externally-described data structure in RPG-IV (v5r1)? I am already using Prefix to distinguish between multiple DS's using the same external definition, but there are common fields defined with the same name in different external definitions, and I have three DS's for three different external definitions that have a common field defined in each. Better yet, if there's a way to tell the compiler to ignore a certain field in the DS, that would work too, since I'm not using the field in question.
