I thought I had posted something about this, but.....
FWIW, creating files via DDL instead of DDS for use in RPG programs suffers
mostly from the lack of integrated index/view. If the shop standard is to
use SQL for everything, I suppose there's no problem. But as soon as you
try to use native random i/o (chain, setll, etc) you'll have problems.

Quite true. However you wouldn't believe how mad that makes people that they have to rename record formats. People are extremely ana! about that. In fact, I bet it has been the straw that has broken the camel's back on a few people moving from DDS to SQL to define their files.
Oh, I agree I'd rather have some additional features in RPG, providing it's a manpower issue. However I'd hope that wouldn't be the case.
