Joe,

I think that the compiler should be able to figure out a way to make it happen w/o requiring a constant. But, until it gets "fixed", try looking at the QECCVTEC (convert edit code) / QECEDT (convert edit) APIs. There is another API (probably QECCVTEM) that works with edit masks.

runtime, you'll need one heck of a big select statement to handle the
many different edit codes.

And if you want to handle edit words, well, you can't.
