Actually David those are the symptoms I've seen most often when a parameter mis-match occurs. Under some conditions the compiler pre-initializes the data pointers that are going to be used on subsequent calls. It just makes the call faster than doing it dynamically. If the called routine corrupts storage in the caller, then the error will not be apparent until the second call. Note that if it is a bound call, an attempt to use a parameter that was not passed can just as easily cause this kind of error as a mis-match in parameter length.
