I would suggest using a User Space instead, but there is an OS/400 API retrieve a data area's content: QWCRDTAA Changing it requires that you call QCMDEXC again with CHGDTAARA specified. If you have the RPG ToolKit you could just use a user space, and the CrtUserSpace, ChgUsrSpace, and RtvUsrSpace procedures to create, change, and retrieve the data of a user space. If you don't have the ToolKit, the QWCRDTAA is your best choice for data areas, otherwise look into the user space APIs. I'm able to create the data area with no problems. The thing I'm not sure about is will I be able to access the data area from other RPG programs. How can I access a data area in RPG if I don't define the data area first? The data area is temporary and the name is a concatenation of the user name and job number. If I need to I can simply use a CL program and I think I will be ok, but I was just curious if it is possible in RPG. _______________________________________________ This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
