Yes, but (and maybe this is my misunderstanding of Java) in pure-java you
don't need to do anything. When an object passes out of scope the jvm cleans
it up for you at next GC run. In this case you have to remember to actively
release it, in pure java you don't. 

Upon re-reading my e-mail I see the confusion, perhaps I should have said
they aren't cleaned up "unless you take an explicit action, an action that
is unnecessary in java"

That's not my understanding.  If the RPG calls DeleteLocalRef for the
reference, Java can free the object during garbage collection.
