With HPT, you output the file as AFPDS when your program runs, that allows the ability to view the spooled file to be standard (it doesn't need to understand every possible format) and then when it sends to the printer, it transforms to the language of the printer it's being sent to. Of course, IBM doesn't support PostScript in HPT... but they support PCL and other languages that printers speak. Maybe if we beat up the right people, they'll add PostScript support. And, I believe, with InfoPrint server you can also do PDF. But, it seems like this is exactly what you're asking for?
