I'd add this, only, Joe. What percent of existing RPG programmers would use operand descriptors? What percent would use inkjet support? Speaking as a strategist, it would be my observation that your clients aren t asking for descriptor support - you are. You see those things as being the way you would choose to solve your problem for your clients. If the RPG Team had a record of not providing the things you want, and more than that, have said they have no intention of going there, then shouldn't your own strategy be adjusted? That is what you have control of, not IBM's strategy. That'd be my observation, as a strategist, Joe. Its good strategy. Where should i send the bill? --------------------------------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.MartinVT.com Booth@xxxxxxxxxxxx --------------------------------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Date: Sunday, May 11, 2003 12:00:46 PM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: RE: Using OO concepts in RPG > From: Booth Martin > > As to your demand that the head of the RPG Compiler team step > down??? Maybe > just maybe Joe, you are a tad out of line? His bosses know what > he's doing <shrug> Not a demand, just my opinion. And not a new one at that. This isn't the first I've suggested that Hans' talents might be better used in a different venue. I think people like you, Hans and evidently Brad have ideas that are counter to the long-term success of the language. Since neither you nor Brad have any influence on the success of me or my clients, I can safely ignore you. Hans has a direct impact on the future viability of my clients, so I have to view his attitude more closely. Having done so, it is my opinion that Hans' distaste for RPG and lack of appreciation of legacy systems makes it likely that left unguided his strategic decisions will hinder the progress of my clients, and since his recent absence seems to have aggravated rather than ameliorated that position, it's my duty to say so. Anyway, debating with you whether additional enhancements such as operand descriptors are more important than inkjet support is useless. It's a matter of opinion, and I find yours to be strategically unsound. I could be wrong, and perhaps the list agrees with you. If the majority of folks on the list, after reading your recent posts on RPG, think that you, Hans and Brad can best decide what they need, then I have nothing more to contribute.
