It is because I can't tell by looking at a MOVE statement what it does, without knowing the attributes of the factors. Sure I know probably thousands of fields names in my databases and their sizes, but one should not have to in order to know what the code is doing. It is not ugly. It is error-prone during maintenance, especially as field sizes change. Doug
