Where I work, they won't let us use "Free Format RPG" because they haven't
developed any standards (?) 
Standards for Free Format? Isn't that a contradiction in terms?

With as many modern techniques as you are already using I think that using
free form code is right for you.  It is a natural fit for modern
programming techniques.  And it is far easier to understand than many of
the concepts you have already implemented.
