We had thought about the overpunches (L = -3) but couldn't see how that applied. Now that the move has been explained (it's that rightmost 'P', which = -7 that results in the sign), I have a better understanding. However, I can state definitively that of the 115 records in the file that have '350P' in the alpha field, only 2 result in a negative value in the result. So, we set up a DS, created a subfield over character 1, and moved the subfield. All is well. But, I are still confused... We should have been getting -3 on the other 113 records... --Chris
