There are little differences. For example - LOOKUP sets %FOUND but %LOOKUP doesn't. - XLATE doesn't change the size of a varying result field but assigning %XLATE to something does, because EVAL does. The one I was going to mention as an exception is LOOKUP. As far as varying fields, I was thinking of "legacy" code, which wouldn't have a VARYING field defined in the pgm, although going from RPG IV fixed to /free would certainly have additional considerations.
