For better or worse, MOVE / MOVEL / MOVEA, etc. have been in the language AND USED EXTENSIVELY (as opposed to the more obscure OpCodes) for well over 20 years. This means that there is a LOT of code that contains them. In order to replace any of that code it would require studying and understanding exactly what the code is doing. It would also often require more code to replace that one line of old code.

The question arises: Since we already are *very* well versed in the ramifications of these OpCodes, do we really need IBM to protect us from ourselves? This is especially troublesome when the routines are already in the compiler, it's just a question of the front end syntax.

I'm not advocating using it for new code, but when converting old code it would be *very* helpful.
