And my college systems analysis book says to avoid new fangled languages like RPG. Stay with more tried and true languages like fortran. rpg /free in itself is not buggy. There are a few rules of thumb to remember - mainly doing with the @#$%ing SQL precompiler. One basic rule of thumb, (which may have been fixed with a ptf) was not having /free being your first C spec. Another thing to consider is intermediate results in math. For example, x=(y*3) + z**2 + ... May not be the same as a bunch of single step calc specs. Just read up on that. Actually that's not a free format thing. You might have that same issue with eval versus the single step calc specs. "Test(de) isn't tried and true" he told me. And that was that. -----Original Message----- From: E Doc [mailto:doc6502@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, February 10, 2003 10:12 AM To: rpg400-l@midrange.com Subject: /FREE RPG compiler errors Hi all I have a situation at work where I'm trying to determine if there is a severe impact going to free-format RPG. There are a couple of issues: 1. I have people who are very "anti" that continue to state that "free-format RPG" is buggy. I cannot get any specifics out of these folks, but it does make me wonder a bit-- has anyone on this list encountered any compiler bugs using free-format RPG? 2. Has any shop whole-heartedly embraced using RPG Free? If so, how large was the hill you had to climb? Also, how did the staff take the news that they were going to use this "new" stuff.
