There are a few ways to do both of these tasks.
One, call an API to retrieve system name, and another to retrieve the
number of records.
Two, call CL programs from the RPG that perform tasks like RTVNETA and
RTVMBRD.
I get off on API's, but if you're new to API's you can probably bang out
the CL programs faster than you can find the manuals on line.

Subject: System name & # of recods
Two questions :
(a)In an RPG/400 (sorry no ILE) program, I need to retreive the system
name.
How do I do that ?
(b) In the same program, I also read a file (oufile of DSPOBJD) that has a
list of files in a library. I need to determine the number of records for
each file I read. The DSPOBJD gives you the size of the object but doesn't
have the # of records. Ho to retrieve the # of records ?
Thanks in advance for any help.
