John,

We too are a small Mapics shop. Learning java may not help you in your
production environment but, it may change the way you look at development.
Since learning java, BTW I am no expert, I feel that my RPG code has become
much more robust. I think it's the OO thing, not just Java. Before setting
out to learn java, download the book Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel. The
URL is WWW.BRUCEECKEL.COM. For me, it was very enlightening.

Thanks,

Mark

Hello list:
This is not a RPG question per se, but I'm sure each list member has
a valuable opinion on this topic. We are a small RPG shop running Mapics
XAR6 and program exclusively in RPG. My boss wants to know the value of
having us (two programmers) learn Java. What are the benefits? Quicker
development time? Quicker running apps? Are most iSeries shops
programming in Java?
    Thanks for your time,
