Side note, but you think that is scary? At a recent departmental meeting it was stated by a CTO that "as crazy as it sounds, the reputation of MIS lies on whether our email is up or not". So instead of dispelling silly notions that MIS main responsibility is the email, we are going to make that our top priority! Goes along with the "wow that looks cool lets dump money into it" thinking! -----Original Message----- From: Lance Gillespie [mailto:lgillespie@cvwd.org] Sent: Tuesday, December 31, 2002 10:37 AM To: rpg400-l@midrange.com Subject: Re: Is RPG available on any other platform ? > One thing that I have found to be interesting is that some people's reason > for going GUI isn't for additional functionality but instead for looks. > YIKES!! Yikes indeed, but that is exactly the reason. There is enormous, unreasoning, overwhelming pressure on the part of users to not have green screens. I have seen with my own eyes users fall all over themselves praising a 'new' app that was just the old app with the NewLook terminal emulation so it looked like Windows. You know what they liked best? It wasn't that nasty, hideous, backwards, awful green screen - it was soothing, modern, cool Windows - BUT THE SCREENS WORKED THE SAME WAY SO THEY DID NOT HAVE TO RELEARN THE APP!!!! Unbefreakinglievable.
