I understand better now. Thanks.  A good answer was already supplied, but
couldn't you also use PAGE? its incremented by 1 whenever it is output.

Initially there are no records written to the subfile. This subfile is a
load all of 400 max and 4 per screen. It is a Purchase Order entry screen
where the user types however many lines they need press enter the RPG Does
error checking and away we go...

below is a what the screen looks like now... I put the zeros and Xs in the
entry fields.... Right now I am having to increment the sequence number 1
-400 in the program. It is wasting too much time doing this and I was
looking for a way to speed up the process. What I failed to mention in my
original post is that this screen is being used through a screen scraping
program that is allowing the user to see more than the 4 lines they see on
the green screen. The problem is that it needs something to be unique on
every page to work correctly.
