Actually, after I posted that thought, I began thinking it would _not_ work 
because of a likely compiler restriction. (How would the compiler be able to 
align within a based structure?) That got me to wondering whether there'd be 
any way to determine alignment programmatically, but nothing practical has come 
to mind. I've been watching to see if anyone posted a correction or an 
algorithm, but so far...
