To add to Buck's list I also like the ability to NOT pass a parameter if it is not needed -- options(*nopass). One update that might be coming out is the ability to "overload" an RPG sub-procedure, and those who have used languages with overloading know that this is going to be some icing on the cake. RPG _will_ be java someday, without the need for a JVM;-) Aaron Bartell -----Original Message----- From: Buck Calabro [mailto:Buck.Calabro@commsoft.net] Sent: Monday, November 18, 2002 9:00 AM To: rpg400-l@midrange.com Subject: RE: What's the difference? In my opinion, performance is the big reason, and parameter type checking is the secondary one, with the ability to embed a procedure call within an expression coming in third - like eval custName = getName(custID). I bet that other folks would put these in a different order, not to mention coming up with reasons that I didn't think to include. --buck _______________________________________________ This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
