Is your code is same as the code in the book? Check the DDS indicators.

you can not do much about the length of code and moreover I believe the
program workign right is important than the length of the code.

Scott's advice is good advice.  Look at where the file pointer is after
pressing page up and page down.  I typically walk through code with a bit
of
scrap paper to keep track of variables before I actually run it.  It's
amazing how one little line of code will make things go wrong.
