You could always get the bat book (the sendmail book from O'Reilly http://www.ora.com). It contains all the rules used to handles addresses of all types (including UUCP if you need to know). You probably wouldn't care about 97% of it, but the chapter on address rewriting talks about just what you are trying to do. James Rich
