Someone somewhere sometime created this logical file with a UNIQUE key, and they probably had a reason for it. Removing the UNIQUE constraint shouldn't change the logical signature, so you probably wouldn't have to recompile programs that use it, but I would not advise this. Unless you go through every program that opens up this logical and look at the program logic and determine what will be the effects of duplicate keys for this logical. It would be much better to look at the data your are trying to populate, and determine why you have duplicate key data and fix it.
