A module is just an intermediate object. It is only used to create programs or service programs, it is not used at run-time. Once you understand this, I think it's clear that re-creating the module doesn't help you at all, unless you also re-create the service program. The module is just one of the steps in creating the service program. One more note, though... You don't have to recompile ALL of the modules of the service program if they don't use the file in question. You can use the UPDSRVPGM command to tell it to just update that one module.
