Hello Birgitta,

thanks for the info.
The reason I need the date to be in *JOB format is
that it will be passed within a command string that
uses *DATE parameters which require the date to be in
*JOB format.

Actually I think I found the solution by searching the
ILE manual for *JOBRUN.  Apparantly the
%CHARACTER/%CHAR BIF will accept a date field AND a
value of *JOBRUN as in the following example:

chardate = %char( datefield : *JOBRUN ) ;
