IBM can't provide all the tools without charging more, and it is not clear everyone wants to pay more. To me a classic example would be conversion programs for RPG/400 syntax to RPG IV. IBM provides a bare-bones conversion, but doesn't spend Toronto's limited dollars on something the market can easily provide. The lab's dollars are better spent adding functionality to the language. Ditto for free-format conversions. IBM provides the support for free-format, but the market provides tools to help retrofit existing code. (The conversion in CODE/400 notwithstanding.) Doug
