'Tom Cruise' I don't mean this unkindly but I am curious as to how, after basic training on RPG programming you seem to have found yourself setting up a project from scratch - from setting up the environment to planning and setting up the project itself - never mind the programming after. I'm pretty new to this game myself and have been plunged in the deep end many a time, but with your level of experience and given the task ahead of you you must either have been very convincing in the interview or the person in charge was very non technical. I can understand you feeling daunted by the task ahead but I'm afraid that these types of lists are for specific questions - you won't be able to get a project plan or an A - Z of the initial set up. It's time to sink or swim and if you stand a chance of swimming (and good luck to you) I would suggest burying your head in some manuals for a while and also maybe getting a decent starter 'how to..' book or ten. Either that or coming clean to whoever is in charge about your level of knowledge and asking if they could hire someone a little more experienced to help begin your task. To be honest I think that there is so much to the AS400 - hardware, software, environment, security etc etc that even though you might get by on your own if you read a lot, you may fall into some pitfalls that a more experienced person would be wary of. Sometimes these pitfalls, although they may not effect the initial working of the system can make maintenance much harder later - reasonable naming conventions for EVERYTHING, well planned programs and environment, building the programs together so code isn't duplicated etc. There is an awful lot to this if you are going to do it reasonably well then I think maybe you are going to need someone more experienced AND a lot of manuals AND a lot of careful planning... Good luck!
