But, tell me what to do with the fields we use which are all postfixed. Instead of 2 character prefixes, there are 2 character post fixes. Prefixed databases are not uncommon. What you're advocating has merit. Whether "prefix dropping" would be a $10 or $20 enhancement only the Toronto folks can say. Rather that converting your data files (dropping prefixes) and adding PREFIX() to your programs, you could instead create new LFs using the RENAME keyword. Access path sharing would make the overhead minimal. Keith
