I said "When using varying fields, you normally only have to do at most one trim to get trimmed data into the field in the first place." Unless you actually want trailing blanks in your varying fields, don't put them in there in the first place. Then you won't have to trim them out later. Makes for cleaner coding: eval qualname = %trim(lib) + '/' + %trim(file) + '(' + %trim(mbr) + ')' vs eval qualname = lib + '/' + file + '(' + mbr + ')'
