While not self cleaning ... '/tmp' is the appropriate place for temporary files. Some systems have code that automatically polices /tmp space and cleans up files that haven't been updated in a certain amount of time. I'm 99% sure the iSeries doesn't have that (but it shouldn't be too difficult to write). As mentioned before, I would suggest you tie the file name to some unique identifier for the file in /tmp.
