I've always set it up as external, and yes you then do have to rename the format. Works like a charm; I mostly do this to dynamically change ftp scripts. I am a bit of a rebel, I tend to do a usropn and do the over ride in the rpg, it is truly a matter of choice/company standards, either way works. Otherwise it is just a normal file to read in and substring/scan/replace for what you need to do. Hi all, I've been searching and searching but... Can anybody supply the general rules for including, and reading, a source physical file in an RPGLE program.? I understand the requirements for the preceding CL override. It's the RPG setup that's throwing me... Can the file be defined as 'E'xternal or does it have to be 'F'ixed with 'I' specs? (I haven't used 'I' specs in so long...) Do I have to rename the record format? (since it's the same as the file name and the compiler doesn't like that!)
