Looks like INZ(*SYS) was born in v3r7.

Bob mentioned this to be kind of a one-time use in the program. What if you
did a RESET on the field(s)? Would it re-initialize the time & date values
to the current?

What release did INZ(*SYS) come along?

If the job start date is what you needed, than its an okay technique.
But if you want the current date (as you are getting the current time)
you might also want to use the TIME opcode to populate your DATE field.
In addition, if you only need to do that once, you could simply
initialize the DATE and HOURS fields to INZ(*SYS) and avoid the TIME
opcode all together.
