Aaron, >What does DSM stand for? Dynamic Screen Manager, and as the name implies, allows you to dynamically manage the screen including input field lengths and attributes. DSM was first introduced around 1992 or so as I recall, back when the only ILE language available was C. Prior to DSM, the only way to accomplsh the same thing was via UDDS (User Defined Data Streams), which worked even on the S/38. DSM is intended to insulate the programmer from some of the idiosyncracies of the 5250 data stream. But it certainly helps if you understand how the 5250 data stream works. There is a whole manual devoted to the DSM apis -- and there has been since 1992 or so. Doug
