Hello Jon,

I've never understood the constant requests to update database files from
CL but I can see the need for processing more than one file in CL. For
example, a DB file and a DSPF. I suppose once multiple file support is
added then people will want to alter the contents of DB files. Then
they'll want printing support! If IBM actually do that sort of thing I'd
rather they expend the effort to add real file support to Rexx (and a
compiler while they are at it) because Rexx is far more powerful than CL.

Besides, it isn't that hard to create generic PRINT, ADD, UPDATE, WRITE
commands to CL that use RPG, COBOL, or C to do the actual record changes.
TAATOOLS had some of these and I think News/400 published a set.

Curious -- why do you dislike CL? (Although the answer to this question
should probably go to MIDRANGE-L)

Simon Coulter.
