To my knowledge, sources (at least RPG) on iSeries are database files, not
text files.

I wonder if RPG is the best choice for writing a tool like this.  You are
going to be searching through text files (source members) not database
files, so you don't get any of the advantages of RPG.  Maybe perl would be
better?  Or even java?
