I am not sure, but I recall I thought the semi-colon was imposed
to reduce reliance on reserved words. I don't get much value
out of the /free but it is handy when you need to make Java
calls. In that case the V5R1 requirement is a moot point.

require it in /FREE after an expression and PROHIBIT it at the end of

expression in the regular syntax? It should be an optional symbol in
the
regular syntax extended Factor 2 for the EVAL and CALLP opcodes...
