We have a very old application that stores arrays of packed
numbers in a file. DDS cannot define arrays so the arrays are
stored in character fields in the file that are from 72 to
4288 bytes long. The application uses MOVEA to extract the packed
array data from the character fields and vice versa.
This was from before Data Structures existed, but using MOVEA
avoids the need for data structures.
I used MOVEA (to 1 byte char arrays) at lot for string handling
but I have not needed to since the new string functions.
I thought MOVEA was RPGs string manipulator.
I aggree that it is obsolete.
