John, I fully agree... if you want it... many solutions do exist. I always find it funny to find people who never used ILE-RPG because their company is still using RPG. My company or the customer I was working never asked it explicitly neither, but it was due to my will that I started to play with it myself. Instead of having a big lunch, or a coffee break... I was coding all sorts of things in ILE-RPG. In the mean while, I have the knowledge that is required to do all sorts of fun projects (sockets, web, xml, mq series, ...) that I would never have gotten if I didn't invest the time in the past ! Just do it... the possibilities of V4R2 are still amazing regarding ILE-RPG ! I learned ILE on V3R1. Maybe this doesn't apply to you Peter, or to Martin, but there is much that can be learned on a V4R2 system by the average RPG III developer. You (speaking in general) have systems available to learn on, documentation freely available on the web, and world class talent --including the compiler developers-- right here on this list whom are willing to help you. If half as much effort went into utilizing these resources as is currently expended in the creative formulation of new "ya but" excuses, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.
