Actually we have a person here who's not the first to accept change.  He
did some time trials using SQL and found it to be faster.  Then he played
around with blocking and stuff.  He improved the RPG access to be only 4
times slower than SQL.  That he found acceptable.

Record Level Access.   All the out of fashion stuff that performs better:
SETLL, CHAIN, READ, etc.
