Save the file to a *SAVF
Spin through the *SAVF with your RPG program and do your favourite
move/z-add/eval to populate the new fields in the target file.  When you
come across a deleted record, WRITE it like the others, but DELETE it after
it's written.  That should map/drop fields as well as preserve the deleted
records.  Perhaps someone on the MI400-L list would know an easier way.
This is an interesting requirement!
