I am the Idiot who asked about how to use pointers in RPG for a linked list... I will use find another way since there has been so much discussion of how bad it is to use ponters in RPG unless you are calling API's I will find another way to code my program. (I in fact have already found it). My true goal was to get used to using pointers in a fairly straightforward way a linked list and I have done that. (with the use of Joel's example last week) I am now of the understanding that what I thought would be a more effecient model (in my mind) would be overkill and may just confuse other developers coming behind me. I found the use of pointers for a simple linked list to be pretty easy( even easier than a file in Qtemp) but with all of the bashing I am giving in... in fact the advice from Hans was good, because I was so bent on learning how to do something I did not notice the more simple method in the program already... (burried in a monolithic dtraight line program) I have put the exesting code int a subroutine and just call it when I need it... see how simple Thanks for the reality check Hans and stop lamenting on my wanting to create a linked list.. :->
