Peter, The field MEMO will actually be blank since it is cleared prior to the compare and if statements. That is to say, the first time through (assuming this is the only code that modifies MEMO and PONO), they would remain blank. But if one pass sets MEMO = '* CREDIT', and the next pass has CM not = 'CM' or 'DM', then MEMO will still be '* CREDIT'. hth, Peter Dow Dow Software Services, Inc. 909 425-0194 voice 909 425-0196 fax ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Schopp" <dschopp@imt.net> Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2002 12:36 PM Subject: Sanity check > Okay, I've got this section of code: > > > Factor1 OpCodFactor2 ResultLenDHHiLoEQ > C CLEARMEMO > C CM COMP 'CM' 44 On if CM='CM' > C N44 CM COMP 'DM' 44 On if CM='DM' > C 44 CM IFEQ 'CM' > C MOVEL'* CREDIT'MEMO 8 > C MOVE *BLANKS PONO > C ELSE > C MOVE *BLANKS PONO > C MOVEL'* DEBIT'MEMO 8 > C END > > > Here's my question - My first thought was that this might be a coding > error - that if CM was set to 'CM', Memo would contain '* CREDIT' and PONO > would be blank, and if CM contained anything else, MEMO would contain '* > DEBIT' and PONO would be blank. > > Then, I realized (I THINK) that the whole IFEQ stmt only is processed if CM > equals 'DM' or 'CM' - anything else and the IF stmt is bypassed, right?
