What Dan said is a great example. Rob Berendt ================== "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." I am new to using the IFS so be gentle and full of details and examples. Here's one idea though. Define the file internally as one big field. After you check each substring for data validity, then move the one big field into an external data structure based on the file itself. Then process the data structure fields as normal. They will be sending fixed length records in these files. They will be doing this from a PC. Please if you can see a better way then let me know. You will not hurt my feelings. <VBG> Hoss -----Original Message----- From: Dan Wiesner - CC [mailto:dwiesner@charter.net] Sent: Tuesday, November 27, 2001 12:58 PM To: rpg400-l@midrange.com Subject: Re: Accessing IFS from RPG You don't need to have people FTP to the IFS if you don't want to. Why are you using the IFS? I then want to be able to pull the data from these files and build Externally Described files on the AS/400 to hold the data. Has anyone done this and if so could I get some examples.
