Your example can't have parentheses so you end up with a totally left to right expression. As you already know, a totally left to right expression just won't do what you want done, so you'd need two if/endif groups in RPG. One more compelling reason for using RPGIV You already understand RPGIV, its RPG that is giving you trouble. btw, in RPG I'd code this way: C that ifeq 'that' C this ifeq 'otherthing' C this oreq 'Thing' C do this C EndIf C Endif --------------------------------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.MartinVT.com Booth@MartinVT.com --------------------------------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: rpg400-l@midrange.com Date: Thursday, November 15, 2001 01:23:48 PM To: rpg400-l@midrange.com Subject: Boolean expressions Being new to the as400 programming world, I would like some insight of how RPG deals with expressions such as this ifeq 'Thing' that andeq 'That' this oreq 'Otherthing' that andeq 'That' do this endif Isn't it redundant and if so equivalent of: this ifeq 'Thing' this oreq 'otherthing' that andeq 'that' do this end if How does RPG evaluate boolean expressions? I've had some argumentation about this and do not agree with my superior on this. Thanks in advance.
