If you use Bob Cozzi's earlier example using sprintf() but fix it according to my later post you will get what you want. If your input string is '255:255:255' (i.e., a character value) you must extract the digits into integer data types. Easy enough with %scan since you have colon delimiters. Pump the three integers into sprintf() via Bob's example and the result is a null-terminated string containing 'ff:ff:ff'.
