You might think that %CHAR would convert the various numeric variables into
character format. I've fallen into that trap a time or two. But no numeric
variables were included on the list of valid parameters the InfoSeeker gave
you. To convert numerics to character, use the %EDITC or %EDITW functions.

Subject: %CHAR in RPGIV on V4R2

[ Converted text/html to text/plain ]
Hi All,
I'm trying to use Built-in function %CHAR in my RGP IV program as described
below

D Idx s 5u 0
D rc s 10i 0
........
.........
.......
.........
C Eval rc = fputs( 'Stream 1 line: ' +
C %Char(Idx) +
C LF
C : FILE_o
C )

But while compiling I'm getting the following error :
*RNF0386 - The parameter for %CHAR is not valid.

InfoSeeker says that the operand can be one of Graphics, Date, Time,
Timestamp.

Could you please suggest me on the usage of the said function.

Thanks,
Parvez
