Joe, maybe someone already suggested this, but you can rename ALL the
fields
of a file by using the F-spec PREFIX keyword.  If you have fields with
names
LOCAT, NAME, IDNO, and you use PREFIX(F2), then the fields will be renamed
to F2LOCAT, F2NAME, F2IDNO.

Doing a wholesale rename like this would cause a problem if you have some
fields that you _do_ want to be shared between two files.
