Going back in time, the argument always used to be, if this is a "master file",
ie a file with a few records that aren't maintained very often, that it is OK
to key the physical, but for "transaction files", ie files which are
continually being maintained, particular ones with a large number of records,
that it is better to leave the physical unkeyed. The reasons always cited in
S/38 days were that there is an extra overhead in writing to a keyed file, and
that in the case of DR, the restoration of your database took longer if the
physicals were keyed. As to whether this is relevant these days, is a moot
point, and one that I can almost feel a massive discussion thread coming up
over!

Regards
Mike
