Hi Phil, I think the short answer is "no" -- in fact, you can't order by anything that has not been included in the "select" statement first. When you think about it, this makes sense -- SQL will select the appropriate rows first (but only the columns you specifiy), and then order them -- how can it order by something whose value it doesn't know? I think the only way to do this is to include all the columns, and if you don't need them elsewhere then just ignore them in the rest of your program. . . .
