Jon, me too, I've never been able to remember which is h and which
is c. x'ab' and 'ab' both seem like 'h' to me. And 'c'.

I can never remember what the size is supposed to be either (it's the
length of the 'c' parm). So I recommend prototypes for these 2
functions with names like this:

     D cvthex1To2 Pr Extproc('cvthc')
     D longReceiver * Value
     D shortSource * Value
     D receiverBytes 10i 0 Value

     D cvthex2To1 Pr Extproc('cvtch')
     D shortReceiver * Value
     D longSource * Value
     D sourceBytes 10i 0 Value

Even then I get a bit confused ...
